Casey Mize just put up seven scoreless with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Kumar Rocker answered with six scoreless of his own. I am not trying to get cute with this total at 8.

The number starts with two listed right-handers in form

Detroit at Texas is listed as Casey Mize against Kumar Rocker, and that is the whole reason I can look under instead of forcing a side. Mize enters at 3-5 with a 2.63 ERA, while Rocker is listed at 2-6 with a 3.83 ERA. I do not need either guy to be perfect. I need them to keep this game from turning loose early.

Mize brings the cleaner ceiling into Arlington

Mize’s last start was seven scoreless innings, one hit allowed, 10 strikeouts, and no walks against the Yankees. That is not a small form note. When a starter comes in off that kind of command game, I am more willing to pay the under tax at -125 because the first half of the ticket has a real chance to stay quiet.

Rocker gives the other side enough resistance

Rocker’s last start was six scoreless innings at Toronto with four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. That matters because this under is not just a Mize bet. If Rocker gives Texas five or six stable innings, the total of 8 starts to feel high enough to work with instead of a number that needs every break.

Detroit already played the low-scoring version of this matchup

Detroit beat Texas 3-0 on July 4 behind Jack Flaherty and the bullpen, with Keider Montero reported for a three-inning save. I am not using one final score as a guarantee for the next game. I am using it as another reminder that this series can sit in a lower run state when the pitching holds up.

The park note does not force me off the under

Globe Life Field is Texas’ home park, with a retractable roof and artificial turf. I am not pretending to know the exact run environment from that alone, and I am not adding a weather angle that is not in the card. The point is simpler: this is not an outdoor wind bet where I need a weather edge to justify the under.

The price is playable because 8 gives some room

Under 8 at -125 is not a discount price, so the starters have to carry the argument. They do. Mize’s current ERA and last outing give me the front-end case, and Rocker’s last outing keeps this from being a one-pitcher handicap. At 7.5, I would be a lot more annoyed. At 8, there is still a push lane if the game lands on a normal late run.

The way this loses is pretty obvious

The risk is Rocker not backing up the Toronto start, or Mize coming back down after the strikeout-heavy game against New York. A short start from either side puts more outs on the middle innings, and that is where an under can get ugly fast. That is the objection I respect most here because the handicap is already leaning hard on the two starters.

Decision

I am taking Under 8 at -125. The bet is built on two listed right-handers coming in off scoreless starts, with Mize carrying the stronger season ERA and Rocker showing enough recent form to keep the total in range. I do not need a dead game. I need clean early innings, a manageable middle, and no cheap late mess. Under 8, -125.
