Detroit just won 14-0, so yeah, Under 7.5 feels gross. I still keep coming back to the two starters. Skubal is the anchor, and Rogers' recent stretch is good enough for me to stay under.
Tarik Skubal is carrying the cleanest part of this bet. His season line is 2.70 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 90.0 innings, and 110 strikeouts, and the recent version has been nastier: 1.48 ERA with 44 strikeouts across his last five starts. Baltimore can hit enough to make this sweat, but I am not pricing this like an average starter spot with Skubal on the mound.
Trevor Rogers' full line, 4.17 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 103.2 innings, is the reason this under is not automatic. But the current stretch is the part I care about more: six quality starts in his last seven, with a 1.44 ERA over 43.2 innings. If he gives Baltimore length, Detroit has to do more than ride the afterglow of that 14-run game.
This is Rogers vs. Skubal, two left-handed starters, not a bullpen game from the first pitch. I am not pretending lefty-lefty automatically kills offense. I just like that the under starts with two real starters who have recent form behind them, because 7.5 gets fragile fast if one side is into the pen in the third.
Detroit's scoring baseline is around 4.3 runs per game, with 3.9 runs allowed per game. That is not a dead offense, and I am not treating the Tigers like they need to apologize for scoring 14. I just do not want to let one blowout bully me off a total that still asks them to do efficient work against Rogers.
Baltimore sits around 4.6 runs per game, so I am not selling a free pass on the Orioles bats. The problem is the arm across from them. Skubal's WHIP and strikeout volume give him a clean way to end innings before Baltimore can stack a big frame, and this under does not need the Orioles dead. It just needs them held closer to ordinary.
Baltimore's bullpen note is the part I do not love. The Orioles used Albert Suarez, Josh Walker, and emergency pitcher Chadwick Tromp after Dean Kremer in that 14-0 loss. Detroit got seven scoreless innings from Troy Melton, so the Tigers did not spend the previous game the same way. I still want starter length, but this is not an equal bullpen hangover for both sides.
The weather is the strongest over argument. Comerica is around 79 to 81 degrees with no real precipitation concern, and the wind is going toward right field enough to give the over some help. At 7.5, one ball carrying a little too well can wreck the bet. That is the risk I am accepting, not ignoring.
I am taking Under 7.5 at -105. Skubal is the main reason, Rogers has pitched better lately than his season ERA screams, and the team scoring baselines do not make me think I need an 8 just to respect the offenses. The weather can make this ugly, and Baltimore's bullpen setup is not my friend late. I still would rather bet these two starters than buy the last box score. Under 7.5, -105.
