Dodgers -115 at Philadelphia at 6:40 ET is not priced like some easy road flex. Good, because with Eric Lauer lined up against Aaron Nola, I do not need a blowout case. I need the better offense and the steadier recent starting setup to carry a short number.
The first number I care about is the team OPS split. Los Angeles sits first in MLB team OPS, while Philadelphia is down at 28th. That is a real gap for a moneyline sitting around -115. If both starters allow baserunners, I would rather be holding the offense that has been doing the louder damage across the season.
I am not dressing Eric Lauer up as an ace. His season line has a 4.81 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP, so there is still contact risk. The part I care about is the recent workload: six innings in each of his past four outings. For a road moneyline, that matters because it lowers the chance this turns into a bullpen scramble before the game has a real shape.
Aaron Nola can still miss bats, and the 108 strikeouts in 103 innings are the part that keeps this from being a lazy fade. The rest of the line is the problem. A 5.68 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP means too many runners, too many stressful innings, and too much damage for me to make Philadelphia the side just because Nola has the familiar name.
This is why I am staying on the moneyline instead of trying to get cute. Lauer does not have to dominate Nola pitch for pitch. He just has to keep the game normal long enough for the Dodgers' offensive edge to matter. With Los Angeles sitting first in OPS and Philadelphia near the bottom of that table, a decent Lauer start is enough to make -115 playable.
At -115, I am not paying like the Dodgers have a massive starter edge. That is fine, because the starter edge is not the whole read. I am laying a small favorite price for the better offense against the starter with the rougher run-prevention profile. If this turns into a bigger Dodgers tax, I like it less. At this number, I can live with the road spot.
The objection is fair. Nola has two quality starts in three July outings, and that strikeout count gives him an out if the Dodgers chase early. Probable pitchers can change too, so I am not treating this like a bet that survives any pitching swap. If Nola is sharp and Lauer's contact risk shows up, this can flip fast.
I am laying -115 with the Dodgers. The case is simple enough: first in OPS against 28th, Lauer giving six innings lately, and Nola carrying a rougher run-prevention line than the name suggests. I respect the Nola rebound risk, but I do not want the Phillies side if I am only being asked to beat a short moneyline. Dodgers ML, -115.
