I’m taking Cardinals ML at +100. Soriano has the cleaner starter line, so I get why the Angels are favored. I just do not want to pay for this Angels offense when St. Louis is sitting at an even-money number.
Los Angeles came into this matchup hitting .239 with a .314 OBP, .391 slugging mark, and .705 OPS through 98 games. That OPS sat 23rd in the table, which matters more to me than the home-field badge here. If I am getting St. Louis at +100, I need a reason to believe the Angels can be made to work for runs, and their season-long offensive profile gives me that.
Kyle Leahy is listed for St. Louis with 18 starts, a 3.73 ERA, 89.1 innings, 75 strikeouts, and a 1.41 WHIP. The WHIP is not clean, so I am not pretending this is some stress-free starter edge. The case is simpler: against an Angels offense that has not separated itself by OPS, Leahy can be good enough to keep the Cardinals live at this price.
Jose Soriano has the better surface line with a 3.49 ERA, 111 innings, 115 strikeouts, and a 1.29 WHIP across 20 starts. That is the part of the handicap that keeps this from being cute. If Soriano is sharp early and St. Louis gives him quick innings, this can get uncomfortable fast.
I would feel a lot different if this number made St. Louis pay full tax into the better starter line. It does not. Cardinals ML at +100 lets me take the team with the weaker starting-pitcher profile without needing to argue Leahy is better than Soriano straight up.
St. Louis played a 10-inning, 8-7 loss at Arizona the day before this spot. Ryne Stanek, George Soriano, Gordon Graceffo, and Luis Gastelum all showed up in late run-scoring events, with Gastelum working the ninth and tenth. That is a real risk note, not something I want to hide, but it also helps explain why I am not laying extra juice here.
Los Angeles beat Detroit 3-2 in its previous game, with its scoring coming in the fifth and sixth innings. That is enough to win a ballgame, obviously, but it is not the kind of offensive result that makes me run from a plus-money Cardinals ticket. If this stays in a normal scoring band, St. Louis does not need a perfect game to cash.
The game conditions were listed as clear, 81 degrees, low precipitation risk, and a light wind blowing out in Anaheim. I am not building the bet around weather, but there is nothing in that setup that scares me off the moneyline. In a fair hitting environment, I would rather take the even-money side than pay for an Angels team that still has to create enough offense behind Soriano.
The cleanest Angels win condition is Soriano landing the first punch and carrying the game deep enough that the Cardinals’ bullpen situation matters more. His strikeout total and WHIP say he has that version in him. If St. Louis lets him stack easy innings, the +100 will not feel generous for long.
I still make the Cardinals playable at even money. The Angels have the stronger listed starter, but the offense profile does not make me want to lay into them, and St. Louis has enough of a starting point with Leahy to justify taking the price. Cardinals ML +100.
